Summer Academy Fairbanks

Applications for the summer 2014 academy are now closed. 

The Colors of Nature academy will explore the biology, physics, and nanotechnology of the colors of nature through the lens of art. Participants will draw, paint, create models, observe birds and insects, explore UV light, play with pigments, and use scientific tools such as microscopes. They will learn about scale in art and science, and learn how color is produced in objects such as feathers and butterfly wings. The final day of the academy will include a public exhibit of student work.

Who can attend?
Girls entering 5th, 6th, or 7th grades in the fall of 2014.

What are the dates?
The 2014 Fairbanks, AK summer academy takes place from July 7-18th, 2014 (with weekend off).

What is the cost?
There is a $25 registration fee for applicants that are accepted into the academy (the fee is used to purchase materials). Financial aid may be available. There is no other cost to attend the academy.

Is lodging available?
No. This is a day program only. Activities take place between 9AM-4PM.
